Everyone’s number one priority should be their health… all too soon we realize we need help. It seems that between the ages of 30 and 55 years we concentrate on work and forget the most important thing, our bodies.

An Interview With Jennifer
Jennifer TEACHES her students how to train themselves. Whenever she has a session with a client she will explain why a particular exercise is important and where it works. How the importance of ‘focus’ can mean a quicker response from the body.

Training is not just limited to adults. Training can be started as early as six years old (however weights are limited to a lesser resistance). Since Jennifer is also a high school coach she also works with lots of student-athletes including Blair Lamb (now on the professional golfing circuit) since she was a Sophomore in high school. She trains basketball and volleyball players for vertical jumping and overall fitness.

Jennifer has a local connection to many doctors who send their patients to her for rehabilitation. Jennifer promotes physical therapy as ‘step one’ toward recovery and her training as ‘step two’ to move onto better overall health in all areas including cardiovascular and resistance.

Jennifer Sargent Byrd has been training others for 30 years and teaches techniques she has learned through a numerous amount of world-class trainers during her competition years on the world-class circuit.

What inspired you to do what you do?
I have always loved seeing muscle on my Dads legs and wanted that!  He was a Rugby player from England.  Started running at 11 to counteract how much I ate and got into gymnastics at 12.  Injured in gymnastics, I turned to getting in shape with weights at 16 and began Bodybuilding at 19.  Was overweight till my first trainer who put me on a diet and lost 40lbs to compete (gained 40lbs 1st year in the military at 18).

What are some of your valuable memories?
Always having support from my parents!  Just became very 'driven' to be the best.  Began winning titles and LOVED the feeling of being someone special!
.
What do you do for fun?  .
I am doing it!  I LOVE my job!  I go do a long run with a friend, go out with my husband for a nice dinner!

What is something I cannot live without?
Exercise!!!!!  Oh and maybe my beer... I love beer!

Best Advice:
Do something, anything to keep your body balanced, fit and healthy... before you know it it begins to break down and you are still STUCK inside of it.  To counteract your eating habits, do a lot of walking, running, cycling... something to GIVE BACK to your awesome bodies!  Buy my new DVD set which teaches you how to do just that!

Things I'm proudest of:
My awesome daughters and husband, my military career of 17years, my titles (each of which takes 12 weeks of hard core dieting), my career and most of all the gift I call my body and the knowledge at a young age to take care of it!

Describe yourself in one word:
Happy!

When you think of home you think of:
My girls, my awesome husband, my dogs, my birds, love!

Biggest Challenge:
Getting others to take better care of themselves!  Can't go home with them!

First Job:
U.S. Navy (first real job)
Favorite Book:
"Flight of the Intruder"

Biggest Pet Peeve:
People not taking care of their bodies and expecting them to always be healthy...

How can Henderson County better help small business?
Small business is really run pretty fully by the owner.  When I first started Blue Ridge offered a guideline to help me with licensing etc.  I would definitely say MORE SUPPORT with advertising (cheap rates), promotions, employing someone to think of promotions for our small businesses and not just on Main Street.  We all struggle and are constantly asked for donations.  Our town needs to give back to our businesses as we work so hard to make ends meet!
